Built by an engineer, for engineers
DevelopVault started on UK energy network projects, where deciding what work a site needs is often the easy part. With only so much funding to go round, the hard part is proving why the money is needed, why that option is the right one and why the others aren't.
DevelopVault was started by Adam Mackay, a UK engineer who has spent his career on electricity and gas transmission and distribution projects.
Much of that work was project development: visiting sites, understanding their condition and history, talking to the people who know them best and working out what needs to be done and why. The information behind each decision was spread across spreadsheets, PDFs, photo folders and shared drives. Much of it also sat with the subject matter experts, site teams and project teams who each held part of the picture.
Bringing it together took a lot of manual effort. Linking a photo to an issue, that issue to a piece of scope and that scope to the options being compared usually meant another spreadsheet or another slide pack. When a question came up in a meeting, finding the right photo or report often took longer than anyone had time for.
The data is there. Using it is the hard part.
Most organisations already collect a great deal of information about their assets and projects. Surveys, inspections, drone imagery, condition records and reports all exist somewhere. The challenge is using that information to reach a clear decision and being able to show, months or years later, how that decision was made.
DevelopVault was built to help with exactly that. It brings the evidence, scope, options and decision together in one visual record that a team can work through together, present live and return to whenever the questions come.
